New

Greetings from SYMT (Shrewsbury Youth Mission Team)
February is here! It feels like no time at all has passed since the New Year, and Lent is already upon us.
This January we have been working hard finishing our website, which is now live at www.symt.org.uk.
We have also had a chance to think ahead to some of the exciting things happening in 2018...
there are retreat opportunities, large national events and training all coming up in the diary.
We feel incredibly blessed to be journeying with you and continually pray for you and your intentions.
Please pray for us too.
With every blessing, Catherine, Sophie and Dave.

WANTED - YOUNG PEOPLES’ OPINION
There is going to be a Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith and Discernment.
Although the Synod will not take place until October 2018 Pope Francis and
the bishops are already keen to get young peoples’ views.
From June 5, 2017 young people in England and Wales can take an online survey at:
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/cathnews-synod-youth-poll.
A separate questionnaire for teachers, priests, chaplains and youth workers can be obtained by emailing:
synod2018@cbcew.org.uk.
Please take a few minutes to send your views to the Synod.

We aim to be a loving community who are -

Obedient to God’s will and grateful for God’s blessings.
Joyful in the Lord, always ready to listen, learn and change.
Offering a warm welcome—inclusive of all ages, races and background.
Growing in Love.
Whole hearted in our worship—developing and sharing or talents, supporting, encouraging and comforting one another.
Relating closely and warmly with other Christians.
Equipped and eager to go out into the community to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Generous in serving one another, our local community and the whole world for the building of God’s Kingdom.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word takes place every Sunday during term-time
at the Cathedral during the 10.45am Mass and at St Winefride’s church during the 9.30am Mass.
‘Liturgy of the Word for Children’ aims to bring the message of Christ to children
in a way that is easy for them to understand, enjoy and participate in.
At the beginning of Mass the children are invited to come forward and follow the Catechist
to take part in their liturgy. They return to church to join in the Offertory procession.
Aimed at 2-10 year olds, everyone is welcome to attend, with or without an adult
and we look forward to welcoming both visitors and regular members to our sessions.
For more information or to volunteer please contact:

Sick & Housebound Visits and Emergency Sick Calls
A new system for visiting the sick and housebound is being put in place with a proper referral form.
Every sick and housebound person in the parish will be visited once a month by a Priest or Deacon;
other visits will also take place during the month by an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and
possibly the SVP. For emergency sick calls only there is now a parish mobile: 07592 155 558.
This number will be circulated to all the nursing homes, hospice and hospital
(and will also be quoted on the Cathedral House answer phone message).
The parish mobile will be carried by a priest 24 hours a day, and we will continue this system
beyond the return back into Cathedral House next summer.
